Brother Abada's reflection on the "radical respect God has towards the individual" echoes the Church's position that human beings are created different from one another so that none of us can say we don't need the other. St. Paul exhorts us to see ourselves as Christ's Body, in which the well-being of the whole is dependent on the well-being of each part. We are also urged to share from our surplus, and graciously receive from others when we ourselves are in need. We are all "interdependent" and therefore extreme poverty of some is a violation of human rights.

Julia, what you have written struck me as a great explanation of why we need to act in solidarty with all.
I looked in my copy of the Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church and in the Analytical Index was suprised to find it has two pages of cross references to solidarity. But not suprising since it is one of the principles of Catholic Social Doctrine (Compendium, no 192).
Pax et bonum,
Andrew
